Can I be first? '02 Mountaineer Keyless Entry Problem

Thanks for openning up to all makes. I have an "early" build 2002 Mercury Mountaineer. That means it was built early 2001. For some time I cannot open my doors with the factory code for the Keyless entry pad on the door. I never set a second code so the factory code is all that has ever been enabled. I used it occasionally, but when I really wanted to use it, Nothing. I have the Factory manual, but nothing helpful there.
