I was going to add that these days, a 4L60E can be built every bit as strong as a 4L80E. It takes a couple hundred extra dollars over a standard overhaul, but is supposed to be well worth the effort. The advent of the hardened sun shell and the 5-planetary gearset address the two major weak points of the 4L60. Add in a 'vette 2-4 servo, and you won't go wrong. A stronger Billet version of the same servo is also available.

When I had my 700R4 (same beast, different name) rebuilt, the hard parts were still in good shape, but I added the billet servo. The 1-2 shift was hard enough to require the return to the stock 1-2 part of the servo, but the billet 3-4 part was all but flawless. It's nearly required if you pull anything bigger than a 2x3 foot utilitiy trailer in OD.
