A bad positive post would cause your 12V to drop out, meaning your lights would go out, radio/clock memory would be lost, etc. I suspect starter or ignition switch.
Put a TEST LIGHT on that purple wire as close to the starter as you can get. If it is bright when you turn to crank, it is a starter. If it is not, then look at the starter circuit from the ignition switch.
Brake pedal doesn't matter. Your lock-out is the gear selector switch on the trans. Those have failed before.
