: Why the 2500 trucks of that era had either 6 or 8 lugs ? I know that C1500 had 5 lugs but K1500 was a 6 lug design. But I see same 6 lug pattern on 2500 trucks and then 8 lugs on same models. What's up with that.

Some of the 6-lug, 2WD trucks were "heavy half" trucks. Higher GVWR than the 1/2 tons, but not quite into the 8600+ GVWR category for the true 3/4 tons and 1-tons. 7000-ish GVWR, where the 1/2 tons were 5500-6500 GVWR.
