Wheel Hub

Thinking back to the old board days, I remember that the front Wheel Hub was a sealed unit on my 95 K2500. The eight lug option to replace the wheel bearing is $420 per side. (Compared to the six lug the guy quoted as $145) Seemed pricey for only needing to replace the bearings. Did anyone ever figure out a way to replace just the bearings or did I just imagine that one :).
