Hey guys,
I still have my 91 K1500 p/up. It now has 430,000 miles on it and the ORIGINAL engine. I'm having issues with electrical. Here's what I've got. Battery drain and hard start to begin with. Replaced battery with top post and cut the ends of the side post terminals. (I know we've been over the (+) side post junk connectors many many times). Truck started then while it was idling about 5 minutes just died. Lights very low and wont crank, only the ticking sound on start. Took out the battery and put on the charger, it was low again. In the mean time, I took out the alternator and took it to 2 places. 1st place read 13.5v and when a load was added it was fine. 2nd place did 3 conscecutive tests and 1st one was good 2 and 3 were failures. So, new alternator. Installed the alternator and put the charged battery back in. Very hard to turn over and no start. I'm thinking the positive cable is bad and has wicked acid down the length to the starter. Also, when I cut the end of the Neg cable to replace with top post mount, I cut off the smaller wire that runs with the Neg cable (Hmmm could that be it...no ground to the body?) The large negative cable is secure at the battery and the block however. Any suggestions???
Thanks!
BIG BLUE
