I'm thinking you may have jumped ahead of where I would start on diagnosis.

Do you hear the wiper motor running? There is a relay for powering the wiper motor. If you can hear the motor, that means the either the linkage is broken or the wiper motor transmission is bad. I would suspect a bad multifunction switch or relay before the motor or transmission if you can't hear the wiper motor...
