Toyota is relying on the technology too heavily. It's pretty apparent that the pedal mechanical design is sensibly corrupt.

Still, I have to point some finger at the US NHTSA for not being bright enough to question non-mechanical ( 'by-wire) automotive controls. The FAA has established specifications for airplane control safety. It is time the NHTSA did the same.
