Thanks folks for all the helpful information. Over the weekend, I have found that the noise was coming from the alternator and the voltage indicator will not go beyond 14 volt when I reved up the rpm. I guess a new alternator is needed and will have to bite the bullet. BTW, it is a 97 Yukon with 137K miles on it.
