Tow-haul switch 2000 suburban

My tow haul switch has started acting up on my 2000 sub. I have figured out it only engages and disengages with the shifter in 3. I guess that works for me now that I know about it, but would like it to work all the time. Do you think it is a bad switch? or a contaminaded grease thing like the blinker switch i fixed last year?

wonder if you have to replace the whole shifter to get a new switch?
