Two common issues.

#1 as Burbman stated, the POS positive battery connection. This can also wreck havoc with the
rest of the electrical system. Even kill the alternator

#2 is the dash harness. Ground is the most common, but the connectors also a potential culprit

#1 battery issue is well documented over at #1 Son's place

#2 is not as well documented. First check the ground by wiggling and tightening. Some times
rusty connection. Next are the connectors and I undo and re-seat them after spraying some contact
cleaner on both ends.
