Just because it will not go beyond 14v is not indicative in itself. The normal voltage is around 13.7, but the voltage regulator can and will vary it to as high as low-to-mid 14s. However a bad bearing is something different and will need to be addressed fairly soon. Just be sure it really is the alternator, and not that stupid belt tensioner. I am on my 4th or 5th one, and the latest started squealing less than a month after purchasing it. (New part from the dealer too.)

If you do decide to replace the alternator, and you have the smaller case CS-130D (105 amp) unit, consider upgrading to the heavier duty CS-144. It is a direct 'bolt-in' upgrade. If you are interested, I can post details.
