fuel level sensor.. which one??

2003 K2500 8.1L 156k miles
2 weeks ago I ran out of gas.. There, I had to get that off of my chest.. On family vacation, running around in unfamiliar teritory and lost track of the last time we filled up... But the kicker was, the gas guage showed 1/3 tank. Thinking it was a bad fuel pump (just replaced in May) I had it towed to a dealership. They put gas in and it started up (I'll try that next time...) but the guage didn't budge. They diagnosed as bad fuel level sensor since. They wanted too much $$ to fix so I picked it up and drove home 1200 miles (towing an 8k lb trailer) keeping a very keen eye on the trip milage.

I have replaced the pump before in the front tank, and I'm considering handling this one on my own.. The question is, how do I know WHICH fuel level sensor needs to be replaced? I really don't want to drop the wrong tank. I have a scan tool, but not a tech II, so I don't think i can access the sensors that way.

Should I just have this one done?
