Drastic improvement in fuel economy

'95 K1500 209K miles

Hey again all!!!

Is it possible that there is a difference in the fule mix between Iowa and Minnesota? I drove the 408 miles from Cambridge, Ia to Alexandrai, Mn and had to refuel in St. Cloud - I was at a quarter tank at that point with 60 plus miles to go. I wasn't towing anything and was using overdrive. . .

On the return - I filled at a Super America station in Alexandria and headed home. Towing a boat in "3" and not "D" I didn't need to take on any fuel. I stopped 46 miles north of Cambridge and was at half a tank.

Daughter drove her Grand Am up and back and we noticed the same extreme economy improvement with her car.

So is there a fuel mix difference? With there being a gas tax - could a state reduce the economy of a particular fuel grade to cause us to have to purchase more fuel - thus increasing the revenue generated from that tax on gas?
