1993 C1500 2WD 220000 miles. I have a problem that just started with the instrument cluster. The speedometer and tachometer read way too high and the voltmeter reads too low. Upon starting the car the speedometer reads anywhere from 30 to 50 mph while standing still and while accelerating to about 25 mph the speedometer goes to 80 mph. The indicated speed certainly does not match the actual speed. Same with the tachometer. The voltmeter reads about 10 volts. The car started find and ran fine for a 5 hour roundtrip with multiple start and stops so I don't think the battery or alternator is bad. While driving the speedometer gradually matched the speed indicated on my GPS and the voltmeter slowly crept up to 13.5 volts. Putting a load on the car like operating the windows or turning on the lights causes the speedometer and tachometer to rise with no actual increase in speed or rpm.
Tonight I plan on starting at the battery and cleaning and connections I can find.
Any other thoughts on where to start?
Don
