Catalytic converter install question

I have a 99 K1500 with 210k miles. The exhaust pipe is cracked at the bung for the front O2 sensor. I'm looking at removing the cat pipe assembly to either have this pipe welded or replaced (I have a P0420 code as well). I just crawled out from underneath the truck and it looks like it will be VERY TIGHT getting the assembly out without removing the transmission cross brace. Anyone else done this successfully? Any tips or advice?
