I removed my pipe to get the trans out so I had the xmember off anyway. The xmember comes off very easily. Just make sure while your jack/lift is holding up the trans that it's not in the way of pipe removal. You could always have a welder try and fix it while on the vehicle. Just disconnect all your sensitive electronics if you arc-weld. The cat converter nuts can be a real pain and so can the manifold studs. Hit them up with penetrant well before you start your teardown.
