If a little bit is sticking out, I would try several things:

1 Grab it with a vice grips or $tud extractor. There are some new sockets with sprags built in meant for removing rounded off bolts that may get a grip on it too.

2. Cut a slot in it and use an impact driver (the kind you pound on with a hammer to turn it) to back it out.

3 Flatten the surface and drill out the core of the bolt. Use an easy out to remove it.

4. The nuclear option that may destroy the manifold, drill out the bolt and threads and retap a larger hole or put a helicoil in.

Finally, a word to the wise. Never use red Locktite on something you nhave to take apart. The blue works well and can be taken apart.

Good luck, be patient and don't do anything more than you have to.

: Hey all!
: Replacing the thermostat yesterday and smapped a bolt right at the head. It seemed to be going in so easy the pop. Looking for any suggestions on getting it out. It broke at the top of the housing so I have a little bit sticking up.
: Any clues would be appreciated.
: Thanks!
