Personally, I am a fan of using both methods. Using the cleaner from the rail will do a better job, but for the minimal cost of a couple bottles per year of an in tank cleaner, how can it hurt?

It is possible to get the tank and nozzle set up for a relatively low price; I've had mine for 5 or 6 years and paid less than $50. I believe with some searching you could still stay under $75 or $80. Penray and Justice Brothers make chemicals that are as good as the BG products. I do the injector cleaning at the rails on a 25,000 service on all my cars. My wife's 04 Subaru with the turbo engine really perked up after I did it.
