2007 K1500, 5.3 Vin 3, now at 125,000 miles.

Middle daughter (Belayette #1) is heading off to college next week, and Spouse (Mrs. OnBelay) had to be in La Crosse, Wisconsin for a week long conference for her work. Since I grew up in the Badger State, it became obvious that the combination of a father-daughter going away canoe trip and escorting SWMBO to La Crosse needed to happen.

Left last Sunday for La Crosse with canoe tied on top, dropped Mrs. OnBelay there on Monday while daughter and I headed north. Spent -1/2 days canoeing the Brule River, and a day on the Apostle Islands. Thursday, drove back to La Crosse, spent Friday canoeing on the Kickapoo. Saturday went to Madison and the area where I was raised. Mrs. had never seen the old family farm, daughter got to walk down State Street and hear stories of the anti-war riots from the 70's, and burgers at Tony Frank's Tavern (world's best burger, IMHO.) Drove home to Nebraska yesterday.

Total of 1972 miles on the trip, used 103 gallons of fuel for 19.1 mpg. Probably 70% of the miles driven were Interstate Highway across Iowa and Minnesota, 70 mph speed limit (which means I was usually right on 78 mph). Other 30% was two lane highway, 65 mph.

With a canoe on top, three adults, camping equipment and food for a week, and a high degree of comfort for all involved, this was a very nice road trip. To get that kind of mileage and have more than enough space gave me just another reason to love having s Suburban.
