I have a 2003 Tahoe with 101k miles...
Aside from the normal fluid changes / flushes, and batteries, the only mechanical problems have been with the a/c controller and the blend doors. I know it's time to do the fluids again as the power steering pump is starting to groan (cavitate) and the transmission may slip on a cold/slow launch.
The Tahoe seating configuration works for 7 if you have youth under the teen ages. Same may be true for the Suburban, but at least that model has room for cargo behind the 3rd row. The Tahoe only has room for a couple carry-on cases, or a couple duffle bags. Nowdays we travel with 5, so it's not too much of a hassle to split the 3rd row seats (up/down) for more luggage.
