I asked my tech to replace the hinge pins on the driver door of my 2000 K1500 Suburban. He is hesitant because he says that while replacing the pins will improve the situation, I am likely to find that the holes in the hinges have gotten out of round. This will result in a less than perfect resolution. On his Blazer, he basically welded/brazed material into the hole in the hinge and then redrilled them. He did not want to get into that on my vehicle.

Is it worth the $120 for the pins to try to replace them myself or just go to a body shop? Is the out-of-round hole situation really a big problem?
