I don't think the highway would be a problem since the issue is related to low speed braking.

I think the problem is that the rust affects the sensors ability to detect rotation at low speeds by pushing the sensor out of its mounting. Since so little voltage is generated at those speeds under ideal conditions, when the rust builds up, it makes it even worse by pushing the sensor away from the hub thus diminishing its ability to detect rotation. At higher speeds, there is adequate rotation to generate current even with the sensor out of position.

My tech replaced the hub and wheel speed sensor since they came as a unit. I saw wheel speed sensors sold separately but I think he felt he could not clean up the hub well enough to feel good about the repair. I got the truck back but need to stop by again to get the invoice showing the work.
