To continue the discussion from Art R. on when to replace his sub
There is one other aspect of deciding to hold or buy. That is your comfort level with the vehicle. You probably love your sub for the same reasons we all do. There does come a point where you begin thinking about reliability - when or where will it strand you. In my house, the Sub (2000 K1500 - 75k miles) is the reliable vehicle. That means that I would put it on the road any day at any time.
My other vehicle is a 97 Chevy Lumina. It has enough little annoyances that I am not really sure if I trust it enough to let me daughter drive it daily when she gets her license in the fall.
Neither has left us stranded. I just don't feel the same about the Lumina as the Sub.
If you are starting to get that uncomfotable "feeling" about your old sub, check your heart and your wallet and make the decision that's best for you.
Opinion: I think a good case has been made to keep the old one - but that is just a financial arguement. You still have to feel good about sitting behind the wheel or having your spouse/child/friend take it out for a spin.
good luck
- Peter
