This is part of my "sky is falling" issue, as it bugs me how OEMs (not just GM, but most all of them) allow these things to continue for too long.
I'm still going to need a new alternator and just pinching the pennies trying to keep this one going a bit longer.
Read up on 'load dumping' and the 'acid wicking' issues, which takes time and comes back with insidiously expensive fixes/repairs.
You could have an acid rotted + cable and it is intermittent, or very high resistance. Think it's been high resistance for a while and now intermittent. This will also load dump the system to kill electronics and the alternator/battery.
Or the alternator is going bad and intermittent, so it is also killing the battery, which will show up with your symptoms.
All because of a stupid $0.5 lead washer...
Or you could have a bad relay or connector, which is another issue altogether.
