Scan Tool?

I've read earlier posts from this year about scan tools.
I have a 92 Infiniti QX4, 99 Sub, 05 Range Rover, 93 Buick Park Ave, and 96 Mazda Miyata.
What do you guys think is the best for a part time minor league mechanic?
I think the $7K models are a bit much.
