: So locking gas cap research begins. The archives suggest that the OEM caps seal best, avoiding the display of the dreaded service engine light . Fuel caps seem fairly elementary for decent aftermarket solution. Is there a locking cap you guys recommend?

Stant makes most of the OEM pieces; if you don't have one available through dealer or AC Delco (for GM), then Stant brand seems to ne the ebst brand name. AC Delco for a Burb should run $20-$28, Stant will be in the $14-$23 range.

: Secondly, are there an anti-siphon devices factory installed into vehicles that prevent siphoning? My vehicles are 1993 - 2005.

Yes and no; it's not so much an "anti-siphoning" device as it is a smaller neck going into the tank. This is the result of an evolution of the redesign of fuel necks mandated when unleaded came in combined with higher volume fuel pumps on the gas station side and a ventilated fuel tank, more than anything to do with a purposely designed anti-siphon function. End result of engineers designing a smaller passage to reduce emissions and a higher volume delivery into the tank is that there are usually enough twists and turns in the vehicle's fuel inlet that it is very difficult to get a hose large enough to easily siphon down the neck.

Of course, the rocket surgeon/brain scientists that make of the gas thief crowd have now moved on to easier ways to get the gas-they just use a cordless drill to put a hole n the bottom of the tank, drain gas into a pan (and all over the street) and move on. In the big picture, I'm thinking I'd rather have them do less damage to the vehicle trying to siphon it, but then again, I live out in the sticks where we still play Cowboys and Indians and anyone caught in my yard trying to get gas is going to pay...one way or the other.

: Thanks
