I know my 1996 Sub the best and will use it's numbers to show how it is done and the 'fine
print' modifiers to the brochure ratings.

Picture is my Sub the day after it came back from the body shop. Numbers in lbs.

Ordered it with just every orderable option. Including the F60 snow plow prep ($63 bucks and
gets the 1 ton front torsion springs), big block, 4x4, etc.

Curb.......6,000
Actual.....7,400 (with me 180lb, +200lb toolbox, +50lb misc stuff)
GVWR.......8,600
GAWR, F....4,250
GAWR, R....6,000
MTWR......10,000
GCWR......16,000

Best to actually weigh your setup axle by axle, both empty and fully loaded (including pets,
people, luggage, ice chest, etc, etc).

GCWR (gross combined weight rating) is what the whole setup can weigh. That is the TV (tow
vehicle) and the TT (travel trailer) and EVERYTHING loaded on/in it (includes the hitch
system).

So my Suburban weighs in at 7,400 lbs with me, so it has 8,600 minus 7,400 = 1,200 lbs of capacity
left. To either stuff more into/onto it, or the TT's tongue weight.

A 6,000 lb TT should have a tongue weight in the 10%-15% range, with 12%-15% preferred. That means
the tongue weight will be 600 to 900 lbs. So my 1,200 - 900 = 300 lbs left for the hitch & other
stuff loaded into/onto my Sub.

Since your Sub is a 2500, it will weigh in around 6,500-6,800lbs *PLUS* whatever you load into/onto it.

Then the axle ratings must not be over loaded. With a rear axle weight rating of 6,000 lbs, it
is usually no where near the limit. My year has the rear axle the same as the 1 ton dually of
that year.

The 12,000 lb MTWR in the brochure is based on the $tripper model or 'curb', which is around
6,000 lbs. If your Sub weighs in at 7,000 lbs, then the 'true' MTWR is 11,000 lbs and so on.

The differential ratio also factors these and here is the 2001 towing and trailering guide page
on GCWR, which has engine/tranny/diff numbers which will show you their association.

The generic formula is: GCWR >= TV + TT + WD Hitch system (actual weights).

Tried to simplify this, but if you have more questions, post and I'll try to answer them
