Well, there ya go - two completely different opinions. Here's mine:

I've got a '96 K1500 with 210K on it. Earlier this year I put a brand new crate engine in it. Along with some other items (new water pump, new distributor, new radiator, new AC compressor, new alternator, etc) the cost was around $5400.

Around the same time, I sold my wife's '99 Tahoe with 165K for $5500. She then bought an '08 Pathfinder, which came to about $31K.

Hers gets her to work. So does mine. My Burb may not have that new car smell but it starts every time, runs great, has no body damage or rust, and only gets a couple of MPG less than hers***

And $31K will buy me a lot of repairs that MIGHT be needed as opposed to spending $31K because the Burb MIGHT need repairs.

***I average 14mpg. After 10K miles on her Pathfinder, she's only averaging 16mpg, and that's with a 6 cylinder and 2,000 pounds less weight!
