180 or 195 T-stat

You guys have posted several opinions and preferences between the 180 and 195 T-stats. After reading the posts I put in a 180 with a 1/8 hole drilled in the flange. My smog guy flipped out when he saw how cool my rig was running, 99 - 7.4L Sub. He made me promise to go back to the 195 non-modified t-stat (no additional flange hole). He felt the engine is not getting warm enough to activate certain features resulting in premature engine wear . Now upon re-reading some of the posts, I think Ben settled on the 195. What is the general consensus?
