I've been following the NP transfer cases since my first one in my old 1973 K5 Blazer.

Something that I've found out is that the 'drag' lube doesn't very well. Especially to the teeny weeny needle bearings.

I've always put in Molybdenum Disulfide in those transfer cases and had great luck with them.

Once a needle or it's race gets a bit dry and hot, it will squeak. The molyb has saved many transfer cases on buddies rigs.

Ditto open diffs in cars I've owned and buddies.

Consider tossing a about 8 oz's of CV joint grease (it's fairly low viscosity) and drive it around before taking it to the shop.
