Isn't this the same reason that many motorhomes and travel trailers have covers for their tires when parked for extended lengths of time? Related or not, when I recently had new tires put the Sub, I asked about the spare (mounted underneath). The tech (recommended by an independant wholesaler with references) said that because the spare is out of the direct light, it's aging should not be an issue. On the other hand, it is at least 7yrs old. (2000 K1500 Sub).
