: Update on the stereo: Moving the unit away from the stereo (placing it in the drivers door pocket) still causes the reboot. The time goes to 1:00, and sometimes says 'err' on the display. It only happens when starting the engine with the SGII hooked up. A workaround is therefore to unplug the SGII when starting, then plug it in 'live'.

Second update:

The Linear Logic folks got back to me and said that they had heard of this happening in older vehicles, and offered to send me a new cable that fixes the problem. Looking through my Service Manual, which is for a '99, not a '96, there is a pin on the OBD II connector for the 'entertainment and comfort' system. So my guess is that the special cable cuts this pin. (It is probably used for something else in non-GM vehicles - so in the interests of generality, they probe it.)

That said, I've been driving the 'Burb all day and the stereo hasn't reset itself even once.
