If the money isn't a key issue I'd go with a 2000+ style, especially for a family hauler, they have a smoother ride and better brakes as the others have mentioned.

Having said that I still drive a '99 with 155K miles on it. I plan on keeping it another couple years and have no concerns the engine will get to 200K.

The things to watch for are intake manifold gasket - if it's been replaced with the new style you should be ok. Brakes are obviously week. The fuel pumps tended to go too - keep the tank above 1/4 and change the fuel filter every ~15K miles and you should be ok. If it has the barn doors check the carpet in the back corners leaky doors was a pretty common problem. You can replace the door seals or add caulk to fix it usually.
