One thing to check is how much space is used on the 240GB drive. Not knowing how you use your computers, it could be anywhere from 5GB up to the full 240GB. I would guesstimate about 50BG used on the PC. If you have 4 PC's with 50GB of used space each, that is only 200gb. A 500GB external drive would be quite sufficient. I would just create a directory for each PC (i.e PC1, PC2, PC3, PC4) and put your each of backups into those directories accordingly. If you have used over 200GB out of 240GB on a PC , then you need a second or larger drive in that PC.

I tend to stay away from the 1TB drives for that fear of putting all of my eggs in one basket. When I have over 500GB on my local hard drive, then it might make more sense to me.
