Maybe Ben is correct! The NiCad battery maybe bad. To verify whether or not the 1.2v is the proper voltage, can you open a good light and measure the voltage and see IF it reads 3.0v, or more than the 1.2v you saw in the failed one?

Otherwise, I don't know what else to tell you. Maybe someone else can help!
