is my transmission slipping?

i have a 99 tahoe 4wd with 119,000 miles. while driving at hwy speed (50+) intermittantly the transmission seems to downshift or slip. i can't tell if it is a slip or down shift. the tach will jump 300 to 400 rpm for just a second or so then right back to where it was. it doesn't do it all the time. anyone else had a similar experience and if so what was the outcome?
