Same problem with my 98. The problem is in the key switch wiring. If you try to start the vechicle 3 times with the security violation the system shuts down for 25 min. It cost me a battery and $240 to find this out. The best way to tell if it will start is to turn the key to on and watch for the security light to be solid instead of flashing. If it flashis dont try to start it. Instead remove the key and try again. I had a pin come loose in the connection on the keyswitch passlock connector. I had the harness repaired and no problems since. There is a tech bulliten on the NHTSB web site about this problem. Good luck
