Well, that was pretty painless. The dealership had replaced the right rear axle seal incorrectly a while back, and it finally started to give up. I went to a local place I trust and had the work done there.

Warranty Gold paid for the parts and labor. About $110. I had another $150 balance but it was for routine service stuff that they don't cover.

The only slowdown was, as reported by others, the delay in getting authorization for the initial teardown and inspection. The place I go to only has one phone line, and they called a few times and were on hold for over 5 minutes each time, and had to hang up. Finally they called me, and I called the WG authorization line. After 8 minutes I was connected with a rep, and I told him I was the owner, not the shop, but that the shop couldn't sit on hold that long, etc. He asked for the number to the shop, and within minutes they had the authorization.

In all, it was a good experience. My only recommendation is that when you bring your truck in for service, warn the shop that the authorization may take a while due to volume, and offer to call them yourself and have WG call them back. It might expedite the process.
