Take a length of garden hose (prefer rubber, 5/8" dia). Take funnel and put the small end into the hose and use the large end against the side of your head. Poke the other end down into the engine compartment to listen for whatever you are trying to find.
Silly looking and sweetie always laughs at me when she see's me out in the driveway with this funnel stuck to the side of my head, but it works!
