You know it better than anyone, so if you don't think it can make it on it's own...
You can rent a tow bar and flat tow it (on it's own 4) if it's in good enough of condition. My guess is that bare bones CJ would be around 3500lbs empty. Some states DMV require towed vehicles to have their own brakes, so double check. Good idea to have trailer brakes for anything over 2000lbs anyway, even if tow vehicle has plenty of reserve braking.
Safetest and surest is to rent a flat vehicle trailer. My guess would be about $100 bucks same day return. It would have brakes and the renting place will hook up the wiring and give tips on how2. How you tie down the CJ on the trailer is important too. The rental place should have chain tie downs you can rent, plus they will show you how2 hook them up. Best is to hook up to the tires with a chain over set up. Hooking up to body/frame parts might damage if the road is rough.
Main thing is to take it easy and slow. If there are hills involved, then prepare WAY in advance to stop, especially if you've never really towed before.
Assuming you have a Sub, but what are the towing components? HD towing package? 3/4 ton? Diff gear ratio?
