I have a 98 tahoe 4wd with the automatic transfer case. I was attempting to change the transfer case fluid to the new Autotrak II fluid and stripped the fill plug. (dummy) The dealer wants $420 to drop the xfer case, fix plug, install xfer case. Does anyone know of any technique or special tool that might help get this out, without removing the xfer case? Anybody had this happen to them? Access to the plug is limited. I've seen a TSB on using heat to help remove the plug, so I can't be the first one to encounter this problem. The 1/4" ratchet receptacle is all but round now. I'm looking for suggestions.
