Overlooked the easiest and most effective removal method. If your plug is the type that is shouldered, ie sandwitches the gasket between the housing and the underside of the plug, which I think is correct in your case; the shoulder protrudes far enough away from the case so that you can remove it with a cold chisel and hammer. Position the chisel at about a 45 degree angle to the plug face and at the outer edge and give it a sharp rap, the trick is to get enough bite to hold and rotate but not too little so that you remove a sliver of metal from the the plug. Too many sliver removals and you will have nothing left to get a bite on so be careful, also common sense goes a long ways in dictating how hard to hit the chisel. Being able to get two bites, 180 degrees from one another is also a priority if possible.
