Ford reduced their door sticker down to 26psi for the sake of "improved ride quality" on the Explorer. I personally think it exacerbated it's flip over tendency by helping tires blow up form over heat generated by under inflation. Have seen that Tirerack site before and it only address "how" tires pressure might be misread, as the tire will heat up from only a few miles of driving and/or heated up from sun heat gain...giving false pressure (it will be less when the tire cools down). All about "under inflation" due to false readings that web site.
Trust is what it's all about and I'd prefer to educate myself rather than blindly trust "todays" service providers. We trust that the manufacturer did their homework and had qualified engineers determind the door stick numbers, but hey, didn't those poor people who died form Explorer flip overs trust their door sticker? I'm sure many didn't even check their tire pressures...ever.
My main point is that there are people who will believe whatever is posted on these forums...even if the information is wrong or misguided. The quality of the forum is in the quality of it's members...and the disagreements that will come. That will give the individuals reading opportunity to decided based on that discussion.
I'll just ask which state and locality those who drive Suburbans with 35 psi in their tires...I'd like to stay a few lanes away from them...
