Yup, auto hubs all the time...do this

Hubs, whether auto or manual, needs to be engaged, driven few miles, then disengaged often. Just to get the grease moving around and cook off any moisture.

Too much, not enough grease can have them stick on/off. Ditto moisture intrusion, causes corrosion.

Auto, even manual, hubs some times needs you to go backwards HARD on the throttle for about 20FT or more. A few times before they will disengage.

Personally would replace the automatic's with manual. Buy the cute little handle too.
