Truck is '98 K1500 ext cab, 4.3 liter Vortec V6, 5speed manual. I've got a loud rattling inside of what I believe is the cat converter. The converter is about the size of a large coffee can and is immediately behind of the "Y" junction where the pipes from the manifolds join. Further back is what appears to be the muffler, complete with "weep" holes for moisture.
Truck has just over 50,000 mi, which seems short for a bad cat converter, but there's definitely something loose and rattling like heck in there.
So, is this little box the cat converter, upstream of the muffler?
