Depending on the damage to the cable, you may be able to salvage it by cutting off the plastic covering the end of the cable, cleaning the end until you see bare metal, cleaning the battery's side terminal, and using new bolts. However, if the acid has wicked into the cable, you will have to replace the cable.
Above is a pic of my Optima Yellow top with gold plated accessory studs used to mount the original cables. Note that the cables are mounted to the outside stud with a gold plated nut/lockwasher and not betwen the stud and the battery.
