I have a 1989 Suburban with R12. The AC, both front and rear, blows cold. But the compressor is a bit on the noisy side and I worry about it going out and then I would be in a real pickly, probably ending up having to convert it over. The compressor kicks on and off with the defroster on. Can I safely unplug the electrical connection to the compressor for the winter to help add to its life? I don't think I really need the AC compressor working with the defrost, it will just a take a little more time in the morning is all. Is this safe today and not a bad idea? Thanks.
