Most of the time it only lasts for a second, but twice tonight on the freeway I had to shift into neutral to quiet the noise. I am not driving the sub hard when it happens.
: The noise seems to be coming from beneath or in front of me. It is not very loud - the first time it happened it sounded like when you drive over a cattle guard or small grate of some kind. The sound is the same regardless of speed.
: Just to confuse the issue, once it happened as I accelerated(!) from a rolling-stop.

Replace the vacuum check valve to the power brake booster.
