I own a '98 GMC Suburban 2500 4x4 7.4L with 80,000 miles. I bought the vehicle from my father, so I know it has had very routine maintinence performed. Right now the vehicle has stock rotors/drums with Bendix MKD369FM front pads. The pads are worn with %10 left on them, so it is time to replace them. (they have a 1 time replacement warranty) This means I can get a free set. The rear shoes are stock and probably need to be replaced as well.
Should I just replace the front pads with another set of Bendix and replace the rear shoes too? There are no pulsations with the brakes and they stop....well typical for a '98 2500.
My ultimate goal is to install a stage II Praise Dyno brake kit and perform a flush of the system. I am just not sure if it is time to spend that much money on brakes when the stock rotors still have life in them.
Is the 3/4 ton a typical pull the wheels and pull the rotor/drum brake job? I have read that these require a press for the rotors and the axles need to be pulled in the rear. What is the true story here?
Thanks,
Steve
